TREVALLY, GIANT
Giant Trevally are one of the most exciting fish to catch and now have a cult like following among many sportfisherman, especially those that love catching fish on large poppers and stick baits.
Very rarely eaten as it is a highly regarded sportfish and most anglers practise catch and release only.
It is the largest of the Trevally's and when large easily distinguished from other trevallies, however smaller sized GT's can be hard to identify as are many of the Trevally family.
Although GT's will take bait, both live and dead, most are pursued with various lures.
1. Surface Poppers. Large blooper style surface poppers are one of the most popular lures for targetting GT's. Hooking GT's on a large popper is one thing - to land is certainly another! The explosive attach of a GT on a surface lure is like nothing else and certainly addictive.
2. Stickbaits. Subsurface stickbaits are another popular and very effective method used to target GT's.
3. Soft Plastics. GT's will also readily take soft plastics, however the trick is to find soft plastics that are tough enough to handle GT's as large GT's will straighten all the but the strongest of hooks.
