Large and probably the toughest fighter of the Tuna family. Much sort after sportfish.
How To Identify:
Dogtooth tuna as the name suggests has very strong canine type teeth and can crush anything but the best terminal tackle. Know to tear apart poppers and lures. Dark blue/steely to purple above, to silvery white underneath
How To Catch:
Will take live baits or trolled lures, trolled around reef edges. However one of the most exciting ways to catch this tough customer is to drop large knife jigs around deep reef edges, note - make sure you tackle is up to scratch or they will just destroy! Large jigged soft plastics are also popular. Also will take poppers and stick baits intended for large GT's
Around the tropical seas of Northern Australia. They love deep reef drop offs and reefy pinnacles, hence a very tough customer as usually heads straight to the reef when hooked.
